I’m a senior level designer who works with teams using emerging design evaluation processes that support user feedback, originality, and instinct. I feel when the focus of a project becomes fully dependent on data and performance software, something is lost. I recently designed a spec product and app for pets and pet parents and also re-branded a national company that helps young adults navigate healthy and unhealthy relationships. The user testing focused on user understanding and feelings towards the message and design. We filmed interactions of individuals using the apps in teams and groups. Because it was an agile environment, user concerns and feedback were documented and shifts were made to everything from choice of font, colors, illustrations style, and editorial content as well. Upper management was somewhat conservative but listened and supported design decisions based on data, videos of users, and our recommendations.
